Some children are forced to endure exceptionally challenging circumstances which may require them to be removed from their homes in order to receive appropriate treatment. NOVA’s Joint Commision Accredited PRTF program provides structured, therapeutic residential services to children and families to light the way toward recovery and stabilization.

PRTF Program
The Dr. John E. Ford Treatment Center houses the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Program. NOVA’s Joint Commission Accredited PRTFs provide intensive, comprehensive residential treatment to young people whose needs cannot be met in community settings. The PRTF provides these young people with structured, relationship-focused treatment through a residential therapeutic model. NOVA’s PRTF sits on an 6-acre campus in eastern North Carolina. The program consists of two, 12-bed facilities, and one 18-bed facility.
Population Served
NOVA’s PRTF program serves children and adolescents from 8 to 17 years of age with complex behavioral and emotional challenges
Residential Services
All individuals reside on NOVA’s 6-acre campus. Each child has their own individual bedroom. Each home is supervised by a team of well-trained staff. NOVA provides 24/7 awake supervision to ensure the health and safety of the individuals served. The residential staff provide:

Therapeutic Services
The PRTF program offers a wide range of clinical and therapeutic services. These services include medication management and other healthcare interventions supervised by our consulting physician, consulting psychiatrists, and team of nursing professionals. Nursing services are available on-site 24 hours a day. Under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists, licensed mental health professionals provide individual, group and family therapy using evidence-based therapies
Educational Services
NOVA is committed to providing high quality education services while individuals engage in behavioral health treatment. All individuals attend Five Points Educational Center, which is located on the PRTF campus. Five Points Educational Center is a year-round, registered non-public school and operates a certified special education program.
